ACT 17:28 Certainly, we live, move, and exist because of him. EXODUS 4:11 The Lord asked him, “Who gave humans their mouths? Who makes humans unable to talk or hear? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? It is I, the Lord! 12 Now go, and I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.
“God don’t make no junk!” Moses was not qualified! David was not qualified. Elijah was not qualified. Matthew, Mark, Luke, John,Peter, Paul….were not qualified to be God’s hands, feet and mouth. They were not equipped to do miracles. God qualifies the obedient participant. Here’s the rub – they had to make a choice to act according to God and not according to what made their mind and body satisfied.
We all come into this world with a problem; freedom of will! Our brain is designed to seek pleasure. Sounds like fun but we all know that a brain without some discipline, without some parameters, is going to hurt someone. Our brain has pleasure sensors. Well that’s cool, but until our cortex is developed and trained we dive right into that lake without knowing that there are rocks right below the surface! This is where freedom gives way to choice. As we live, we decide how our choices are influenced. Does pleasure determine our choices all the time? Maybe friends influence us. Maybe it is teachers, spouses, parents, siblings, television, Facebook, twitter! What if porn influences our choices?
Have you heard the phrase, “this is your brain…?” Well, here is what science says: “this is your brain on porn:”
- mush
- selfishness
- guilt
- shame
- addiction
It can also lead to divorce, dismissal, prison, violence, substance abuse, impotence, suicide. No joke, it’s science. Freedom of will is not satisfying. Choices determine our happiness. Choices also determine our value and confidence and character, integrity, success, satisfaction, direction, goals and purpose. Now here’s the deal: do your choices come from selfishness or from faith? If your choosing porn, or porn is choosing you, then you have decided that you know better than God!
